The year is coming to it's end and thus prompts a flurry of news and reviews of 2011, including various 'best of': the top 20 Photo Books of 2011 as determined by Alec Soth and the best photography of 2011 is selected by Sean O'Hagan are a couple of links of interest.

Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs has launched a competition for budding filmmakers, with a chance to win cash, a commission from WWF and equipment from Canon. Details on the link, submissions by 16th January:

"We all know energy efficiency is important, with the economy tanking and fuel prices rocketing – but it’s boring. It’s up to you and your film to change that! Kevin McCloud and the government’s Energy Minister, Greg Barker MP, will be judging the competition alongside some of the UK’s top people from marketing, advertising, and film. You’ll need to make a 60 second film. It needs to have a spark, and can be wild, innovative, and creative, but most of all it must be inspiring in a way that can help trigger change. To create the desire for people to do a home energy revamp"
